Wendi Sue Johnson

Wendi Sue Johnson, 64, of Machesney Park, IL, passed away on Saturday, March 7, 2026, at River Bluff Nursing Home. She was born on Thursday, April 27, 1961, in Rockford, IL, the daughter of Dennis C. and Willa J. (Gunning) Johnson. Confirmed at Grace Lutheran Church. Graduated from Harlem High School, Class of 1979. She married Michael Francis Slavik, Jr., in June of 2001, in Machesney Park, IL. Wendi was employed as an LPN at River Bluff Nursing Home, Fairhaven Christian Retirement Center and Provena Cor Mariae Center. Avid NASCAR fan and a fan of Dale Ernhardt. She enjoyed going to the Rockford Speedway and getting together with her family. In her younger years, Wendi was quite an equestrian, owning and riding her horses. Survivors include her sister, Beverly (Allan) Merfeld of Machesney Park, IL; nephew, Chuck Merfeld of Machesney Park, IL; nieces, Debbie (Bruce) McKenzie of Western Springs, IL, Jenny (Johnny) Johnson of Roscoe, IL, and Becky (Ed) Peterson of Beloit WI; several great and great-great-nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her parents; husband, Michael Slavik; and two nephews, Kevin and Glenn.

As per her request there will be no services. Cremation rites accorded. Arrangements by Delehanty Funeral Home, 401 River Lane, Loves Park, IL. In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be established.
