Wanetta E. King

Wanetta E. King, 97, of Loves Park, IL, returned to the loving embrace of the Lord, Sunday, May 17, 2026. She was born on June 18, 1928, in Folsom, WV. Wanetta often spoke fondly of her youth in WV. She moved to Illinois as a young adult, where she met and married Richard W. King on October 15, 1949. Together they built a loving family and family business in Loves Park, IL.

Wanetta loved spending time with her family most of all. She also enjoyed working in her yard, planting flowers, tending to her angel garden, and her time as a member of the Grace Lutheran Church of Loves Park. She was an active part of the family’s carpentry and woodworking business. She would also fondly tell stories of the family’s Rootbeer Stand of which some of the glass mugs still exist with family members.

Wanetta’s memory will be carried on through her daughter, Peggy (Robert) Roettger; son, Tracy King; grandchildren, Melinda (Brant) Reed, Justin (Astyne) Roettger, Jered King, and Ryan (Katie) King; great-grandchildren, Elizabeth (Zach), Ethan, Aidan, Evan, Eli, Sawyer, Wyck, Railyn, and Gracielyn; sisters-in-law, Alice Talkington and Evelyn Talkington. Those to greet her in Heaven include her parents, Robert and Carrie Mae (Price) Talkington; husband, Richard King; sons, Robert and David King; and her 12 brothers and sisters.

The family invites others to attend services on Thursday, May 28, 2026, at Delehanty Funeral Home, 401 River Lane, Loves Park, IL. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. and services to start thereafter. Burial in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Machesney Park, IL, following services. In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be established.
