Virginia M. Slocum, 91, of Rockford passed away Monday, April 9, 2018. Born July 6, 1926, in Rockford, the daughter of Roy and Margaret (Reufer) McCracken. Married Raymond H. Slocum on March 17, 1950, in Rockford. Employed by Visiting Nurses Association for 38 years. Active member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church, where she played in the bell choir and was everybody’s nurse. Virginia enjoyed music, playing the organ, dulcimer and harmonica. She loved fishing, camping, gardening and spending time with friends. Virginia volunteered with Habitat for Humanity and was a part of Mission Work. She loved building things and assisted with building two of her own homes. Virginia helped start the Crusader Clinic. Survivors include daughter, Karen (Kevin) Dhuse; daughter-in-law, Chery Slocum; grandchildren, Craig (Nicole) Dhuse, Cheri (Shane) Troumbly, Matt (Amy) Slocum, Dr. Bethany (Jason) God, Stephanie (David) Polhamus and Michael (Caitlynn) Slocum; great-grandchildren, Samantha, Emily, Allyson, Justin, Jewell, Jefferson, Hudson, Evan, Maggie, Beckett, Clay and Harper; sister, Marge (Larry) Denhart; numerous nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her husband; and son, Brad.
Service at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 14, in Aldersgate United Methodist Church, 4055 N. Rockton Ave., Rockford, with visitation from 10 a.m. to service time. Burial in Willwood Burial Park. In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be established. Arrangements by Delehanty Funeral Home, Ltd., of Loves Park.
