Vincent J. “Vince” Ingrassia, 88, of Loves Park, IL, passed away on Sunday, May 25, 2025, in his home, surrounded by his family.
He was born on May 5, 1937, in Rockford, IL, to Vincent Lucian and Mary (Oddo) Ingrassia. Vincent graduated from West High School. He joined his dad working at Illinois Wholesale Liquors which was owned by the four Ingrassia brothers, Ted, Frank, Paul, and his father, Vincent “Vince”. He worked as a salesman for Illinois Wholesale Liquors. Veteran of the U.S. Army. He married Alice Minnihan. He then decided to own his own bar(s) Rockys in Loves Park and T. Minnihan's in Belvidere, IL. He also became a partner with James Smith and John Sommer at Park Lanes Bowling Center. Member of Illinois Licensed Beverage Association and Lombardi Club. He also raised money for Muscular Dystrophy. When Vince retired from his bar in Belvidere, he and Alice wintered in Biloxi, Mississippi. Alice passed away in 2005, Vince continued to travel to Biloxi. In 2007, he met Merrilee Zimmerman, a former patron of his bar in Belvidere. They were married in 2010. They moved to Sun City Center, Florida, in 2014, and returned to Rockford in 2024. Vinces’s life was full of so many people, he learned to play dominos with his friends in Florida, and loved playing cards. Avid Chicago Bears and Cubs fan. He was a very social person and started the tradition of driveway sit outs with his neighbors in Florida. Vince was an amazing man, his deep voice, his smile and most of all his loyalty. Everyone who knew him knew these things about him. His extreme drive to continue living after the cancer diagnosis was evidence of his strong will and endurance.
He leaves to honor his memory, his wife, Merrilee Ingrassia; stepchildren, Michelle (David) Funderburke, Thomas (Michelle) Minnihan, Ryan (Kim) Minnihan; step-grandchildren, Audra Smith, Brian (Amanda) Minnihan, Josie Schaedel, Shawn Minnihan, Briann Minnihan, and Michael Minnihan; several step-great-great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Marianne Peters; brother-in-law, Gary (Vivian) Buechner; nieces, Nikki (Richard) Jarrett, Kristi (Jacob) Rodenbeck, Steffani (Adam) Hipp; a host of cousins; and very dear friends, James Smith and Bill Naretta. Preceded by his parents; brother, Salvator Ingrassia; former wife, Alice Ingrassia; and stepson, Kelly Minnihan.
The family would like to thank the staff at OSF Lung & Pulmonary, Dr. Ted Ingrassia and staff; OSF Center for Cancer Care, Dr. Mete Kormaz and staff; and OSF Home Health & Hospice Unit.
Respecting Vince’s wishes, there will not be a visitation or funeral service but rather a celebration of life to be scheduled at a later date. Cremation rites accorded
