Truman Turner

Pastor Truman D. Turner, 92, of Rockford, IL, was promoted to his heavenly home on Saturday, November 25, 2023, in his home. Born June 19, 1931, in Knobel, AR, the son of Vardman Lee and Verda Aster (Myers) Turner. He came to Rockford in June 1950. Truman was a proud veteran serving in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He was patriotic, loved his country and flag. He married the love of his life, Patsy V. Bullard on April 20, 1953, in Bradford, AR. Truman founded Haven Assembly, which was previously known as Family Worship Center, now known as The Dwelling Place, before returning to Arkansas in 1996. After six years of doing secular work, he returned to Rockford to become associate pastor at Riverside Assembly of God, where he did visitations at homes, nursing homes and hospitals, conducted Wednesday morning Bible study and lead Sunday night worship service. Pastor Turner was an ordained minister with the Assemblies of God for 60 years. Survivors include his children, Trudy (Andy) Hill, Richard (Dana) Turner, and Rhonda (Craig) Durham; adopted daughters, Barb, Cindy, and Linda; 8 grandchildren, Joel (Pam) Hill, Chad Hill, Ashley (Ira) Baldwin, Alli (Matt) McCague, Brennan (Mariah) Turner, Nicholas (Morgan) Durham, and Austin (Chelsea) Durham; 19 great-grandchildren; siblings, Linda Defendi and Judy Anderson; numerous nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents; wife; brothers, ELV, Samuel, and Burnis (Tiny) Turner; brothers-in-law, Jack Anderson and Paul Defendi; and a grandson, Ryan Robert Durham.
Service at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, December 2, 2023, at Life Church, 5910 Elevator Road, Roscoe, IL, with visitation from 9:30 a.m. to service time. Entombment in Sunset Memorial Gardens. Arrangements by Delehanty Funeral Home, 401 River Lane, Loves Park, IL. In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be established.
