Timothy “Tim” G. Melvin, 73, of Machesney Park, IL, went to his heavenly home surrounded by his wife and children on Friday, January 19, 2024. Born July 21, 1950, in Viroqua, WI, the son of LaVerne and Naomi (Pelton) Melvin. Veteran of the U.S. Army serving in Korea during the Vietnam War. He married his high school sweetheart, Carol Gustafson, on September 23, 1969. Employed by Chrysler for over 34 years. Giving back to his community, he was a regular blood / platelet donor and volunteered at Mercy Hospital, helping transport those in wheelchairs. Tim raced at the Rockford Speedway for many years and was known as a fair, respectful competitor. Tim loved watching NASCAR and was an avid Chicago Bears, Cubs, Blackhawks, and Bulls fan. Tim almost always had a smile on his face and never met a stranger. In retirement, Tim and Carol loved to go on road trips to visit their children and exploring new parts of the country. They loved their weekly long winding back road adventures and made fun out of a routine trip to the store. He may have loved coffee ALMOST as much as his kids and holds the unofficial world record for most coffee drank in a lifetime. His vice in retirement was a strong addiction to word searches and had one close at hand most of the time.
Survivors include his wife, Carol Melvin; daughters, Carla (Ken) Bernard, Tracy (Michael) Richter, and Trena (Mark) McIntire; grandchildren, Timothy (Lyndsey) Bernard, Jacob (Kylee) Bernard, Brittney (Jamie) Hendrickson, and Brody McIntire; one great-grandchild; sisters, Sandra (Jerry) McNier, Cindy Spitzner, and Lynn (Tom) Buntjer. Predeceased by his parents, LaVerne and Naomi; sister, Kathy Walsh; and brothers, James, Steven, and Richard Melvin.
