Steven “Steve” L. Reichensperger, 72, of Rockford passed away Friday, January 22, 2021, in his home. Born October 6, 1948, in Rockford, the son of Joseph and Margaret (Gillan) Reichensperger. Graduated from Boylan Catholic High School, Class of 1966. Steve served in the Army's 105th Finance Division in Germany. Married Frances “Fran” A. Wright on June 22, 1968. He was a dedicated employee of the Rockford Park District for 27 years, retiring as Chief Financial Officer in 2008. Steve coached both boys’ and girls’ basketball and softball teams for many years at St. Bridget and Harlem Community Center, where he served on the board and earned the Edwin O'Dalen "Mr. Softball" Award and Coach of the Year. He volunteered at St. Bridget Church, where he was a member since 1975, Carpenter's Place, and as a Cub Scout leader. Steve was honored to be a previous Fred C. Machesney Pioneer Service Award recipient. He was a loving husband, devoted father, and proud Papa. Survivors include his wife and best friend, Fran; his children, Joel (Stacie) Reichensperger, Kym (Mike Ferry) Houchin, Kathy King, and Stacey Reichensperger-Garza; grandchildren, Zachery, Taylor, Troy, Payton, Haley, Trevor, David, Mckenzie, and Kylie; brother, Robert (Judy) Reichensperger; sisters, Ann Peterson, and Linda (Craig) Anderson; sister-in-law, Sue Reichensperger; brother-in-law, David Wright. Predeceased by his parents; brother, Edward; grandson, Noah; sister-in-law, Nancy Wright.
Mass of Christian Burial at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, January 30, 2021, in St. Bridget Catholic Church, 600 Clifford Ave., Loves Park. Cremation rites accorded. Walk through visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, January 29, 2021, in Delehanty Funeral Home, Ltd., 401 River Lane, Loves Park. Face coverings and social distancing required. In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be established.
