Stephen Ortland

Stephen D. Ortland, 59, of Rockford passed away Monday, August 14, 2017, in SwedishAmerican Hospital. Born August 21, 1957, in Charleston, SC, the son of Henry and Jean A. (Killian) Ortland, III.  Graduated from Guilford High School, Class of 1976.  Graduated from Bradley University School of Business in 1980 BMA.  Married, the love of his life, Julia K. Niffenegger on March 23, 1985, at Grace Lutheran Church in Loves Park.  Formerly employed by Ingersoll from 1981 to 1989.  Currently employed in finance by UTC Aerospace Co. (Sundstrand Corp.) for 28 years.  Member of Grace Lutheran Church for 32 years where he was past council member and treasurer of the endowment fund.  Member of Sigma Chi Fraternity at Bradley University, University Club of Rockford and National Contract Management Association (NCMA) where he was past vice-president membership and auditor.  He enjoyed tennis and snow skiing.  He loved the Sunday morning contemporary service at church listening to his boys, Alex and Reed, playing guitar in Grace Lutheran’s Church band.  Survivors include his wife of 32 years, Julia; sons, Reed Ortland and Alexander Ortland; mother, Jean Ortland; brother, Henry (Bev) Ortland, IV of Wimauma, FL; sister, Linda (Dale) Larson of Rockford; numerous nieces and nephews; in-laws, Robert Niffenegger, Francie Niffenegger, Kim and Fred Hasse, Barb and Denis Funk. Predeceased by his father; in-laws, Glen and Mary Niffenegger; and brother-in-law, Donald Niffenegger.

Service at 11 a.m. Monday, August 21, in Grace Lutheran Church, 343 Grand Ave., Loves Park, with visitation from 9 a.m. to service time. Burial in Scandinavian Cemetery.  Memorials to Rockford Rescue Mission or Grace Lutheran Church.  Arrangements by Delehanty Funeral Home, Ltd., of Loves Park.
