Stanley F. Wentland, 89, of Machesney Park passed away peacefully Saturday, September 4, 2021. Born October 27, 1931, in Rockford, the son of Stanley and Josephine (Westphal) Wentland. Veteran of the U.S. Army and Marines. Married to Dorothy Kisting for 63 years until her passing in 2017. Employed by REPCO for over 30 years, retiring in 1991. Stan was a board member, super-volunteer and donor for HCC and Wentland Sports Complex. He was a driving force behind PlayWorks and SkateWorks park. He enjoyed working outdoors and attending his grandchildren’s sporting events. Avid Notre Dame fan. He received many awards including: Parks Pinnacle Award for Community Service, Fred E. Machesney Pioneer Service Award for exemplary community service, P.B.B.A. Outstanding Service to the Youth of Loves Park, Park District Community Service Award, Project PlayWorks Leadership and Dedication in Making The Dream a Reality, and Harlem Fan Club Booster. Survivors include children, Joanne (Jim) Webb, Mary Witt, Tom (Rose) Wentland, John (Kim) Wentland, Joe Wentland, Theresa (Gordon) Reilly, Sue (Jimmy) Cunningham, and Mike Wentland; 24 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; brothers, Thomas and John “Jack” Wentland; and numerous nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his wife; and son-in-law, Scott Witt.
Memorial service at 2 p.m. Sunday, September 19, 2021, in Delehanty Funeral Home, Ltd., 401 River Lane, Loves Park. Visitation from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday, September 18, 2021, in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be established in his name.
