Stanley “Stan” L. Burdick, 90, of Machesney Park passed away Tuesday, December 20, 2016, in his home. Born October 24, 1926, in Rockford, the son of Francis and Vivian (Lucas) Burdick. Veteran, serving in the U.S. Army. Married Helen “Tilly” P. Bouchard on September 12, 1948. Stan’s day job was at Welders Supply Company until he retired. He also had many odd jobs to support his family. Stan was a track official at the Rockford Speedway for more than 68 years. Stan and his 1955 blue Chevy truck were favorites with the fans. He would tell people “2 more payments and its paid for”. He loved racing. Stan and Helen would travel to Daytona every year for the Daytona 500. After Helen passed away, he continued going with his son, Mike. In 2014, he was inducted into the Illinois Stock Car Hall of Fame. Stan was a wonderful father. The family took many vacations, had go carts, snowmobiles, a swimming pool and even a school bus decorated for his children’s baseball teams. Stan was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s in 2015 and was cared for at home by his children. We would like to thank his visiting nurses who helped make this possible. Survivors include his children, Cindy (Thom) Loebach, Jody (Roger) Sidener, Christy (Mel) Theel, Mike Burdick, Kim (Tom) Welte, Terri (Dan Green) Burdick and Mark Burdick; 18 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great-grandchildren; sisters, Marilyn Clanin and Fran Robbins; several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his wife, Helen on November 30, 2009, after 61 years of marriage; daughter, Debby; grandsons, Mikey Burdick and Travis Esmond; and sister, Donna Burdick. We are saddened by his death, but we know there is now another angel looking down on us. Remember him every time you hear the races going and know he is still watching from a better seat.
