Shirley Kimmons

Shirley A. Kimmons, 79, of Rockford passed away Monday, October 15, 2018. Born September 4, 1939, in Chicago, the daughter of Joseph and Jean (Kurnick) Podgorski. Graduated from Harlem High School. Married William “Bill” E. Kimmons on October 12, 1963, in Rockford. Employed by Warner Lambert for 37 years. Shirley loved to read, watch old movies, look at fall leaves and go to Friday night fish fries. Most of all, she adored her grandchildren and loved to spend time with them. Each one was special to her. Shirley was a beautiful, kind and generous daughter, sister, wife, mother and friend. Survivors include her husband, Bill; daughter, Teisha (Todd Byrne) Kimmons; son, Shannon (Sonya) Kimmons; grandchildren, Jacob, Bhodi and Zoei; sister, Milly Meuret; brother, Ray (Kathy) Podgorski; and many beloved aunts and uncles. Predeceased by her parents and many beloved aunts and uncles. Ray and Kathy Podgorski wish to thank Shirley and Bill. We will forever remember their love and support during Kathy’s cancer treatments. Also, for all she’s done over the years as a sister, sister-in-law and aunt.

Per her request, there will be no services. Cremation rites were accorded. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to PAWS Humane Society. Arrangements by Delehanty Funeral Home, Ltd., 401 River Lane, Loves Park.
