Shirley Mae Carter, 88, of Loves Park, IL, passed away on Thursday, August 14, 2025, at Medina Nursing Home in Durand, IL. She was born on May 13, 1937, in Rockford, IL, the daughter of Chester W. and Faye M. (Jenison) Oberg. Lifetime Loves Park area resident. She married Richard “Dick” W. Carter on August 4, 1956, in Rockford, IL. Shirley was an artist who enjoyed painting. Survivors include her sons, Mike W. Carter, Mark A. (Kristi) Carter and Jeff S. (Cheryl) Carter; grandchildren, Gracie Carter, Emily (Steve) Humphrey, Jake Mullen, Stacie (Curt) Dinger, Lisa (Don) Kitsemble, Regina (Gino) Edwards, Roger (Mike) Lamberth; several great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, and numerous other family. Predeceased by her parents; in-law’s, William (Blanche) Carter; husband; sisters, Dodi (Dick) Peebles and Carole (Walt) Stenzel; brother, Dick (Irene) Peterson; sister-in-law, Carole Fasulo; and special dog, Coco.

Service at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, August 21, 2025, at Delehanty Funeral Home, 401 River Lane, Loves Park, with visitation from 10 a.m. to service time. Private entombment in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Machesney Park, IL. In lieu of flowers, memorials to St. Judes Children’s Hospital.
