Sandra “Sandy” Kay Darr
Sandra “Sandy” Kay Darr, 65, of Machesney Park, IL, departed this earthly life on Thursday, July 13, 2023, surrounded by love. Sandy was born August 15, 1957, in Rockford, IL, the daughter of Kay (Erby) Warner. She was raised by her mom and loving stepdad, Charles Warner. After attending Auburn and Harlem High Schools, she joined the work force as a waitress at Short Stop Restaurant. She ventured south in her early 20’s and ran a home daycare in Texas. She came back to Illinois and worked as a spot-welder at Myco Display, a secretary at JED Insulation, a housekeeper, and other miscellaneous jobs. Sandy was a very loving and caring person. She always put others before herself and tried helping anyone and everyone that she could. However, no one came before her children and grandchildren. They were the shining light of her life. Family was number one to her and she always made that known. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. Playing cards, dancing, cookouts, and just being goofy and enjoying a night of laughter were some of her favorite things. She enjoyed doing yard work and having the outside of the house looking just as nice as the inside. She also loved her collection of horse figurines, pictures, and blankets. Sandy had an extra special bond with her granddaughter, Maddie Kay. They spent a lot of time together and Maddie even helped care for her grandma when she became ill. Their bond was like no other. Survivors include her son, James (Gloria Adee) Darr; daughter, Jennifer (Jamie) Gitchel; bonus daughters, Carrie Smith, Shelly Baumgartner, Nikky (Bryan) Ellis, and Coley Adair; bonus son, Aaron Peterson; grandchildren, Austin Burris, Michael and Johnathan Darr, Madison Woodman, Julie Priddy, Jadyn Quincy, Melanie and Hunter Ellis, and Jaxtyn Adair; great-grandchildren, Baby *Pickle* Darr (on the way) Drea, Hyrum Moore, Mylie and Gabriella Englebrecht; dad, Charles Warner; sisters, Nancy Vikouski and Sharon (Tom) Garrity; brother, Tom (Laurel) Grimes; sister-in-law, Connie Warner; nieces, Margaret (Scott) Sholl, Amy (Nathan) Ebersole, and Kayla (Ryan) McDermott; nephews, JT Grimes and Jake (Emma) Warner; lifelong best friend, Michele Mahan; along with other extended family, great-nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.
