Sallie Carol Smith, 79, of Loves Park, IL, passed away on Friday, October 14, 2022, at P A Peterson at the Citadel. Born November 17, 1942, in Rockford, IL, the daughter of Robert R. and Kathryn (Bohnstedt) Widmer, Sr. Married Joseph “Joe” Newell Smith on October 19, 1963. Employed first as a CNA at Walter Lawson Children’s Home and later by the Harlem School District for 26 years, retiring in 2005. Founding member of Northeast Christian Church. Survivors include her husband, Joe; sons, David (Tina) Smith and Scott Smith; 9 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; brother, Robert Widmer; special friend, Charlotte Hunt. Predeceased by her parents.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, October 22, 2022, at Northeast Christian Church, 5651 East Riverside Blvd., Rockford, with visitation from 10 a.m. to service time. Cremation rites accorded. Arrangements by Delehanty Funeral Home, 401 River Lane, Loves Park. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Pregnancy Care Center, 4108 Morsay Drive, Rockford, IL 61107.
