Rosemary “Rosie” Gertrude Bell, 97, formerly of Carmel, IN, Bradenton, FL, and Indian River, MI, passed away Wednesday, April 28, 2021, surrounded and held by her loving family. Rosie was born December 7, 1923, in Indianapolis, IN, the daughter of Frank William and Mary (Mueller) Judd. She met Carlos Leon Bell, who said he would never date a redhead, on a blind date. They were married on June 19, 1949, in Indianapolis, and enjoyed 70 years of marriage before he passed in 2019. Rosemary was employed by Connecticut General Life Insurance Co., but her most loved occupation was that of a mother and homemaker.
Her selflessness and love for her husband, children and grandchildren was her legacy to all who knew her. “Gammy” was a wonderful cook – and her recipes for Italian spaghetti, sweet rolls, Texas sheet cake, lasagna, pork & sauerkraut will be passed down for generations. She was the queen of “worrywarts,” and could worry a paper cut into a finger amputation. Her infectious laugh would light up a room and there was never a party she didn’t want to attend. Most recently, she enjoyed putting Early Times whiskey in her chocolate Ensure because “it tastes like Bailey’s.”
Rosie was a lifetime member of Carmel United Methodist Church and the Rekamemoh (Homemaker spelled backward) Club in Carmel, IN. Rosie enjoyed drinking wine and “brown 7-ups”, sewing, playing bridge, cooking, golfing, and loving on her grand-dogs.
Survivors include her daughters, Tammy (Edward) Rentschler and Kimberly (Arnie Lewin) Hacker; grandchildren, Jonathan A. Hacker, Emily (Bryan) Wood, Elisabeth (Jessie) Hawila and Megan Rentschler; great-grandchildren, Noah and Aubrey Wood and Sloane Hawila; and sister-in-law, Wilma Jean Trotter. Predeceased by her parents; husband, Carlos; brother, Leonard F. Judd; brother-in-law, Charles Trotter; and sister-in-law, Mary Ellen Judd. Special thanks to her beloved family at the Grand Victorian of Rockford, and Heartland Hospice – especially Gaby whose angelic voice calmed her on her heavenly journey.
A private celebration of life will be held with her family. Cremation rites accorded, with inurnment on Friday, May 7, 2021, in Crown Hill Cemetery, Indianapolis. In lieu of flowers, memorials to Heartland Hospice (HeartlandHospiceFund.org/Donate). Arrangements by Delehanty Funeral Home, Ltd., 401 River Lane, Loves Park, IL.
