Rose E. Hedlund
Rose E. (Franchini) Hedlund, 92, of Rockford, IL, formerly of Loves Park, IL, passed away Thursday, June 8, 2023, in her home. Born April 23, 1931, in the family home in Rockford, the daughter of Peter and Jennie (Guglielmi) Franchini. She married Albin F. Hedlund, on June 5, 1954, at St. James Catholic Church in Rockford. Albin, better known as Al or Ole, died July 10, 2006. Rose graduated St. James School in Rockford in 1945, Bishop Muldoon High School in 1949 and St. Anthony’s School of Nursing in 1953. She was employed for five years at OSF St. Anthony Medical Center and 23 years at Rockford Memorial Hospital with 21 of those years on the post-surgical unit, retiring in 1993. Member of the Korean Veteran’s Auxiliary and chairperson for the 20-Year Club at Rockford Memorial Hospital. Also, member of the Lombardi Club, and St. Bridget Catholic Church where she was involved in nursing ministry, gardening (produce went to food pantry), and assisted with funeral luncheons. She took great pride in activities with her family, especially their traditional New Year’s Day brunch. She made the wedding cakes for all six of her kids’ weddings. Rose believed in “Doing good deed each day and being kind to one another.” Her hobbies included: knitting, sewing quilting, gardening, canning, and fishing. Survivors include children, Peter (Pat) Hedlund, Mary (Wayne) Williamson, Dan (Sue) Hedlund, Jim (Margaret) Hedlund, Terri (Mark) Wiegert, and Tom (Kelly) Hedlund; grandchildren, Chris (Lesa), Mitch, Tyler (Jocelyn), Evan, Jeremiah (Rachel), Andy (Ashton), Steve, and Joe (Megan) Hedlund, Danielle and Jacob (Molly) Williamson, Jennie Wiegert, and Cally Siperly; great-grandchildren, Hunter, Lyla, Lily, Carter, Andrew, Valerie, Shawn, Brendan, Audrey, Luke, Logan, Landyn, and Beckett Hedlund, Payton and Preston Siperly, and Charlotte Williamson. Predeceased by her husband; parents; son, Donald; brother, Lou; and sister, Irene Manny. The family wishes to thank Dawn and Tracy with Mercy Hospice for their love and compassion.
Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. Thursday, June 15, 2023, at St. Bridget Catholic Church, 600 Clifford Ave., Loves Park, IL. Entombment in Sunset Memorial Gardens. Visitation from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, June 14, 2023, at Delehanty Funeral Home, 401 River Lane, Loves Park. In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be established.
