Ronald “Ron” Sperry Bowers, 79, of Machesney Park passed away Friday, October 5, 2018, in Alden Park Strathmoor Nursing Home. Born July 19, 1939, in Cleveland, OH, the son of Fletcher and Eloise (Sperry) Bowers. Attended Miami University in Oxford, Ohio from 1957 to 1959. Veteran of the U.S. Army, serving from 1959 to 1962. Married Louise V. (Beadle) Bogard on September 28, 1963, in Rockford. Loves Park area resident for almost 50 years. Employed by Chrysler Corporation for 32 years, retiring in 1997. Active and officer of Park Boys Baseball for 8 years. Former I.H.S.A. Baseball and Basketball official. Avid sports fan. Ron enjoyed cooking as a hobby, bowling, playing cards in the Texas hold’em tournaments, fantasy sports and yearly trips to Las Vegas. Survivors include his sons, Gary Bowers and Chris (Amy) Bowers; grandchildren, Austin, Brooklynn and Mercinda Bowers and Jacob Amerine; great-granddaughter, Natalie Amerine; brother, F. Mark (Janet) Bowers; several nieces, nephews, good friends and neighbors. Predeceased by his wife and parents.
Service at 1 p.m. Friday, October 12, in Delehanty Funeral Home, Ltd., 401 River Lane, Loves Park. Entombment in Sunset Memorial Gardens. Visitation from 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday, October 11, in the funeral home.
