Roger Gordon Sloggett, 96, of Rockford, passed away at his Willows Health Center home and joined his wife in heaven on Saturday, March 25, 2017. In a life well celebrated, he was born December 22, 1920, in Rockford, the son of Edward M. and Lottie E. (McGregor) Sloggett. Roger was a U.S. Navy veteran, who served his country during World War II. He married Bonnie Jean Timmerman. He retired from Barber-Colman as an engineer and spent his time attending school events of his grandchildren, as well as assisting his children with their numerous home projects. Roger was a past member of Centennial Methodist Church where he was active in the Builders Class and Evans United Methodist Church where he served on the Board of Trustees. He was also a volunteer with Meals on Wheels and the Loves Park G Pac Senior Center. Roger enjoyed golfing, wood working, camping, and fishing, which he shared with his children and grandchildren. Survivors include his children, Nancy (Bill) Girling, Thomas (Karen) Sloggett and Judy Kaser; grandchildren, Craig Girling, Jeffrey (Allison) Girling, Matthew Sloggett, Jennifer (Elliott) Dungan, Melissa (Jason) Shimanek and Breeana (Christopher) Yokey; great-grandchildren, Emerson and Peter Girling, Lucas and Noah Dungan, Piper Shimanek and Theodore Yockey; and numerous nieces. Predeceased by his beloved wife, Bonnie; brother, Carlton; and sister, Shirley Swanson.
Memorial visitation from 11 a.m. to noon Saturday, April 1, in Delehanty Funeral Home, Ltd., 401 River Lane, Loves Park. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to a charity of your choice in Roger’s honor.
