Robert “Bob” L. Wood
Robert “Bob” L. Wood, 93, of Loves Park, IL, passed away on Thursday, July 13, 2023, at River Bluff Nursing Home. Born January 30, 1930, in Rockford, IL, the son of Vernon D. and Alpha I. (Lind) Wood. Graduated from Harlem High School, Class of 1948, where he was a four-year letterman in basketball, football, and track. He married Charlotte Davis, in Taylorville, in 1955. Later attended Rock Valley College and served on the OSHA board from 1976-1978. Robert’s first job was as a skate boy at Paramount Roller Skating Rink. He later managed ING Skating Palace with his best friend, Darwin Udesen. Employed by Commonwealth Edison for 41 years, serving in many positions. He greatly enjoyed the safety advisor position and spent time traveling and meeting all the wonderful employees whom he considered family. Served as Captain of the Loves Park Fire Department for 14 years. Lifetime member of the Loves Park Masonic Lodge #102. At the time of his passing, Robert was a 75-year member of the IBEW, having joined in 1948. Charter member of Riverside Community Church and later, a member of Bethany Presbyterian Church. Survivors include grandchildren, Robert (Erica) McFall and Elizabeth “Betsy” (James) McFall; great-grandchildren, Holden, Josie, Elijah, Noah, and Sarah; son-in-law, Dennis McFall; numerous nieces and nephews; special friends, Mr. and Mrs. Roy Isoz, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Rudd, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Fleming, Janet McGregor, Justine Helwig, Connie Graybow, the Ali family of Lahore Pakistan, and Carmen Jimenez of Barcelona, Spain. Predeceased by parents; wife; daughters, Candy J. Wood and Gwen Michelle Wood; brother, Vernon D. Wood, who was killed in a plane crash in World War II; and sister, Mary L. Wood Fiecko.
Visitation from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 19, 2023, in Delehanty Funeral Home, 401 River Lane Loves Park, with graveside service at 11:30 a.m. 650in Willwood Burial Park, 7000 West State Street, Rockford.
