Robert Michael “Mike” Riordan, 89, of Rockford passed away peacefully Thursday, April 13, 2017, at home, after several years of declining health. He was born July 2, 1927, in Washington, DC, the son of Robert Boehm and Dorothy (Stoddard) Riordan. He was the eldest of 9 siblings. Mike graduated from the University of Notre Dame in South Bend, IN, with a degree in mechanical engineering. He served in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers during the Korean Conflict. During a long career, he worked for the Studebaker Company, Bendix, GE, Wayne Pumps, Chandler Evans and Sundstrand where he attained the position of master engineer before retiring. Mike was a faithful communicant of St. Bridget Catholic Church in Loves Park and St. Mary Oratory in Rockford. Survivors include son, Kevin Riordan of Rockford; daughter, Mary Ann (Andy) Singleton of Weston, MA; grandchildren, Martha, Peter and Stephen Farlow and Anna Singleton; brother, Terence; sisters, Marcia and Judy; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Ann in 2010; brothers, Thomas, Patrick and Daniel; and sisters, Joan and Elaine.
Mass of Christian Burial at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 22, in St. Bridget Catholic Church, 600 Clifford Ave., Loves Park, with visitation from noon to service time. Entombment in St. Mary's Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials in memory of Mike Riordan may be made to St. Bridget Catholic Church. Arrangements by Delehanty Funeral Home, Ltd., Loves Park. Friends will be at the house to receive flowers during the funeral.
