Robert Sidney Peterson, 79, of Machesney Park passed away Thursday, December 30, 2021, in SwedishAmerican Hospital. Born January 9, 1942, in Rockford, the son of Anton Sigfried and Gunhild Marie (Anderson) Peterson. Attended East High School. Veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving from 1960 to 1964. Married Betty Jane Conklin in New Jersey. Employed as a custodian by the Harlem School District for more than 30 years. Robert was a big fan of football, he loved fishing, NASCAR (his favorite driver was Jeff Gordon), and war movies. His favorite T.V. shows were NCIS, Bluebloods, Mid-Summer Murder and Father Brown. He had a big heart, always helping others. Robert loved his grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and had a huge love for his kids. Survivors include his children, Rich Peterson of Rockford, Kim (Joe) Ortiz and Aaron Peterson, both of Machesney Park; grandchildren, Andrew (Jordyn) Peterson of Rockton, Adam Peterson of Machesney Park, Amanda Peterson of Rockford, and Jacob Gregor and Jessie Garrett, both of Machesney Park; great-grandchildren, Makenzi Peterson of Roscoe, Ava Peterson of Milwaukee, WI, and Emmett Peterson of Rockton; sister, Darlene Peterson of Loves Park; brother, Carl (Fran) Peterson of Georgia; nephew, Matt (Amber) Peterson of Texas; niece, Dawn (Aaron) Johnson of Loves Park. Predeceased by his parents; wife, Betty; grandparents, Andrew (Selma) Peterson and Andrew (Signe) Anderson; sons, John Peterson, and Nathan Peterson; brother, Lonnie (Barb) Peterson.
Service at noon Saturday, January 15, 2022, in Delehanty Funeral Home, Ltd., 401 River Lane, Loves Park, with visitation from 10 a.m. to service time. Burial in Arlington Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the family.
