It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved father, husband, grandfather, and friend, Robert “Bob” I. Arneson, Jr., 71, of Machesney Park, IL, who passed away at home on Monday, May 18, 2026.
Born to Kathryn Eaton and Robert Arneson Sr. on September 3, 1954, in Danville, VA, Bob was one of a kind. Self-described as “Chatty, loquacious, or verbose”, his larger-than-life personality and unforgettable laugh always made his presence known. Armed with skilled hands, a silver tongue, a sharp eye, and quick wit; Bob achieved much: A heavy equipment operator (Local 150) by day, and a “no school” biker businessman (Fat Bob’s Used Harley Parts) by night. A skilled marksman, horseman, fabricator, and lover of music, he amassed both respect and reputation in his life.
Bob was a proud union man, biker, and berserker. An orator, storyteller, and comedian. He was, even more so, a free spirit, a lover, and a philosopher…. A renaissance man. He was an unforgettable warrior-poet whose passions included motorcycles, rock’n’roll, trap shooting, deer hunting, woodworking, and most importantly, spending time with the people he loved. Whether around the pool, in the garage, at his motorcycle shop, or gathered with family, Bob was always the heart of the room.
Above all else, Bob was deeply devoted to his family. He leaves behind his wife, Shelly; his children, Courtney Arneson, Robert “Trey” (Kelly) Arneson III, Jorian (Kim) Arneson, Kayla (Daniel) Hoernecke, and Cheyenne Arneson; and his cherished grandchildren, Christian, Ingvar, Faye, Lola, Quinn, and Sylas, all of whom brought him immeasurable pride and happiness.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert I. and Kathryn Faye Arneson, Sr.
Though our hearts are broken, we take comfort in knowing Bob’s legacy will live on through the stories he told, the laughter he shared, the lives he touched, and the love he gave so freely. He will be deeply missed, forever remembered, and endlessly loved.
Celebration of Life will be at a later date. Cremation rites accorded. Inurnment in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Machesney Park, IL. Arrangements by Delehanty Funeral Home, 401 River Lane, Loves Park, IL.
