Richard Anderson

November 27, 1937 — August 10, 2021

Richard Lee “Dick” Anderson, 83, of Machesney Park passed away Tuesday, August 10, 2021, after an extended illness.  Born November 27, 1937, in Freeport.  Graduated from Freeport High School, Class of 1955.  He achieved a Bachelor of Arts and a Master’s degree in music from the University of Arizona where he was also drum major.  He married Mary Irene Konop on December 30, 1965, in Machesney Park, and had three children.  Richard taught music and was band director in the Harlem School District for over 35 years at several Harlem District schools and proudly taught hundreds of students to play band instruments.  The piano lab at Harlem High School has been named after Richard in his honor.  He loved watching tennis and attended the U.S. Open.  Richard enjoyed working in his yard and gardening.  Survivors include his children, Marion Forman of Kansas City, KS, Mark (Tahara) Anderson of Wantagh, NY, and Michael (Jill) Anderson of Cherry Valley; grandchildren, Michelle Forman, Mitchell, Noah, Gabriel, and Henry Anderson; sisters, Melody (Mike) Meier and Deanna Hopper; brother, Dennis (Carla) Lee.  Predeceased by his wife, Mary Anderson; and parents, Charlotte (Steinert) Lee and Milton Lee.

Private family services will be held with burial in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Machesney Park.  Arrangements by Delehanty Funeral Home, Ltd., 401 River Lane, Loves Park.
