Raymond W. DeWitt, 94, of Rockford passed away Monday, December 31, 2018, in Fairhaven Christian Retirement Center. Born June 1, 1924, in Rockford, the son of Clarence W. and Alice E. (Gorham) DeWitt. Veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army. He received two Bronze Battle Stars for his service in the Rhineland and Central Europe. Married Bernice Brzostek on July 10, 1969. Worked as a carpenter for 25 years. Formerly employed by Murphy Transfer as a warehouse manager. Member of the Rock River Traffic Club and the International Material Management Society. He loved fishing, traveling, playing golf and playing bridge. Ray was also known for always tinkering with something and annoying the squirrels in his yard. Survivors include stepsons, Dick (Cindy) Brzostek and Roger (Nancy) Brzostek; granddaughters, Dawn Brzostek, Sheri Brzostek, and Stephanie Brzostek; great-grandson, Brice (fiancée, Julie) Brzostek; and very special lady friend, Gertrude “Gert” Breidigam. Predeceased by wife, Bernice; brother, Roy DeWitt; and sister, Louise Heabler.
