Patricia “Pat” Ann Oakland, 75, of Machesney Park passed away peacefully Tuesday, November 9, 2021, in SwedishAmerican Hospital after having had a good life. She was born August 1, 1946, in Rockford, the second of five children to Phillip Michael and Mary Lucille (Alexander) Thompson. Pat was raised on the southeast side of Rockford attending St. Edward Church and grade school. She was a member of the charter class of Boylan High School, graduating in the Class of 1964. She married Lyle “Oakie” G. Oakland on October 16, 1965, in Rockford. They purchased their “starter home” in 1968 and never left. They joyfully welcomed Julie Beth in 1966, Jeffrey Lyle in 1967, and their precious little latecomer, Jorey Paige in 1983. Pat and her family spent years vacationing at Green Lake Wisconsin in the summer and weekends. The family also took several trips out west visiting Yellowstone, other national parks and everything else along the way. The trips had to be repeated as Jorey got older and began looking at family photo albums, declaring the family had done all the “fun stuff” before she was born. Pat also enjoyed watching all the children’s and later grandchildren’s activities, softball, golf, cheerleading, football, soccer, basketball, and volleyball, to name a few. Pat was employed by First Bank of Loves Park, later called Bank One and finally Chase bank for nearly 29 years, retiring in 2005. Pat met many wonderful and long-lasting friends at the bank. She was so grateful for all those special people who passed thru her life. You know who you are. Member of St. Bridget Catholic Church. Pat enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, jigsaw puzzles and any other kind of puzzles. She loved the Gameshow network. Everyone knew where Pat was at 6:30 p.m. every night. That half hour she always spent with Pat and Vanna. Survivors include her daughters, Julie (Christopher) Black and Jorey Grey; son, Jeffrey Oakland; grandchildren, Benjamin (Leah) Black, Matthew Black, Abigail Grey, Hunter Grey, and Mason Grey; siblings, Sherry (Stephan) Heisler, Richard (Debby) Thompson, and Daniel (Connie) Thompson; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and cousins, to all she so loved; a great inherited second family in Minnesota who were also very dear to Pat; and to Pat’s great neighbors who were good to her. Predeceased by her parents; her husband of 52 years; and sister, Nancy Garkey. The Oakland family would like to thank the staff on the 10th floor at SwedishAmerican Hospital for the compassion and care.
