Novella Marie Luter, 77, of Machesney Park passed away Thursday, September 28, 2017, at home. Born November 27, 1939, in Brodhead, WI, daughter of Werner “Mike” Marvin and Lois Weta (Shaw) Badertscher. Resided in Brodhead, then Durand with her parents and lived more than 70 years in the Rockford area. Married Paul A. Luter on July 11, 1958, in Rockford, by the Justice of the Peace. Employed as an office manager by Gunite Credit Union for more than 20 years, retiring in 2008. Faithful member of First Baptist Church of Machesney Park since its founding, serving as secretary and/or treasurer for many years. In her later years, she was a ESL teacher with the church. Member of ABWA, RASA and WCAHCE (Homemakers). She was the recipient in 1989 for Woman of the Year with the ABWA and was also woman of the year for homemaking. Member of YMCA Joyful Joints group. She assisted the First Baptist Church with the founding of the Rockford Rescue Mission as secretary. Leader of the Luter’s Looters 4-H Club and various sewing and quilting organizations. She was an avid crafter. Survivors include daughters, Kathleen (Ron) Kay of South Wayne, Wis., and Renee Braun of Machesney Park; grandchildren, Kurtis (Rachael) Braun of Muscatine, Iowa, Tabitha (Charles F.) Taylor of Rockford, Kassandra (Clayton F.) Taylor of Rockford, Sara (Wm.) Frank of Milwaukee, Wis., Steven (Tina) Braun of Cherry Valley, Heather Lindquist of Machesney Park, Shane Lindquist of Loves Park and Ashlea Lindquist of Loves Park; great-grandchildren, Xavier Taylor, Charles Rose III, Michael Lenz III, Jason Lindquist, Kayden Krutsch, Olivia Braun, Abbigayle Lindquist, Alexis Braun and Destiny Froning; sisters, Marlene (Victor) Olson of St. Louis, MO, and Verneen Rufino of Roscoe; brother, Mickey (JoAnne) Badertscher of Leaf River; brothers-in-law, Marvin Rehfeld of Rockford and Harry Hauri II of Machesney Park; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. Predeceased by parents; husband; granddaughter, Treena Marie Lundquist; great-grandson, Caleb James Taylor; sisters, Elaine McBride Rehfeld and Diane Hauri.
Service at 2 p.m. Friday, October 6, in Delehanty Funeral Home, Ltd., 401 River Lane, Loves Park, with visitation from noon to service time. Graveside service at 11 a.m. Saturday, October 7, Greenwood Cemetery, Brodhead, WI. In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be established.
