Mildred “Millie” E. Pryor, 97, of Rockford, IL, passed away on Thursday, January 2, 2025. Born June 17, 1927, in Peach Orchard, AR, the daughter of George and Vennie (Tarpley) Barkley. She married Oliver H. Pryor on June 17, 1950, in Loves Park, IL. Former member of Windsor Baptist Church where she and her husband were founding members.
Over the years Millie worked at J.I. Case and Woolworth’s in Loves Park before retiring in 1982 from the credit department of Sears Roebuck & Co.
Millie enjoyed baking for others. This included special character birthday cakes for the grandchildren and wedding cakes for many young women at her church, or trays of cookies for friends. Millie also enjoyed sewing, quilting and reading.
Survivors include her son, Ronald (Becky) Pryor of San Tan Valley, AZ; daughter, Karen (Bill) Durtschi of Rockford; grandchildren, Jason (Lisa) Pryor, Ryan Pryor, Kristin (Frank) Lowry, Erica (Chris) Schimmel, and Thomas (Natalie) Durtschi; great-grandchildren, Haley, Makayla, and Alyssa Pryor, Emily and Noah Lowry, Emma, Willa, and Otto Schimmel, Sydney and Olivia Durtschi; and special family member, Debra Bokath; sister, Kathy (Henry) Greene; many cousins, nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her parents; husband; great-grandson, Noah Schimmel; brother, Clint Barkley; and sisters, Mary Barkley, Thelma Smith, Helen Herd, and Ellen Reid. The family wishes to thank the staff at Symphony Northwoods Care Center and Heartland Hospice.
Service at 11 a.m. Friday, January 10, 2025, at Delehanty Funeral Home, 401 River Lane, Loves Park, with visitation from 10 a.m. to service time. Burial in Sunset Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be established.
