Michael "Mike" White, Sr.

Michael “Mike” A. White, Sr., 75, of South Beloit passed away Friday, August 31, 2018, up north at his beloved lake house in the arms of his loving wife, Diane. Born January 16, 1943, in Rockford, the son of Lloyd Victor and Dorothy Mae (Grubb) White. Graduated from West High School, Class of 1961 “Olde Warriors” and graduated from the University of Wyoming. Married to Diane E. Amundson for 12 years. Employed in the insurance business since February of 1966 for over 50 years. He owned and operated Waterside Financial Group. He received his CLU Designation in 1973. He was a life and qualifying member of MDRT for 37 years. Past-president and 6-year Rockford Park District Commissioner. In 1988, Michael received the Art Priebe Distinguished Service award. He founded and was past president of the Rock River Valley Epilepsy Association. Past president and board member of the Rockford Association of Life Underwriters. Past president of RALU and GAMA. He was a past volunteer supervisor for the Winnebago County Public Service Work, youth orientation. Michael was a past United Way Fund campaign leader. Past I.H.S.A. swimming official, Cub Scout leader, Webelo leader and YMCA fund raising captain. Past board member and regional vice-president of ILUA and past member of Mayor’s Bullseye Committee on downtown Rockford redevelopment. Member and trustee at Bethesda Covenant Church. Member of First Congregational Community Church of Roscoe.  He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing and golfing his whole life. Mike and Diane loved to travel. They were always together, doing anything. Mike was loved and cared for over the years and will be missed by his wife and best friend, Diane; sons, Michael (Kristine) White, Jr., Matthew (Daron) White and Martin White; stepdaughters, Kristin (Ryan) Fish and Kelsey (Eric Gabrielsen) Amundson; grandchildren, Logan White, Connor White, Natalie Fish, Nolan Fish, Rachel Scott and Kyle Scott; sister, Patricia (John) Bishoff; mother-in-law, Helen Morse; sisters-in-law, Vicki (Mike) Johnston and Susan (Jim) Wright; brother-in-law, Tom (Audry) Morse; several very special nieces and nephews; special canine companions, Abraham and Charlie. Predeceased by his parents; and first wife, Linda in 1998. “Death leaves a heartache no one can heal – love leaves a memory no one can steal.”

Service at 11 a.m. Saturday, September 8, in Delehanty Funeral Home, Ltd., 401 River Lane, Loves Park. Burial in Scandinavian Cemetery. Visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, September 7, in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be established in Mike’s memory at the Rockford Park District Foundation.
