Melvin “Jack” J. Hollis, 89, of Machesney Park, IL, was called home Monday, May 20, 2024, at Javon Bea Hospital. Born August 30, 1934, in Corning, AR, the son of Sid and Gladys (O'Daniel) Hollis. Veteran of the U.S. Army. He married Denise Lindsay on October 8, 1960, in Rockford, IL. Employed by Ferguson / J.D. Mott, pipe supplies, for more than 40 years. Member of First Baptist Church of Machesney Park. He loved spending time with his family, playing slow pitch softball, gambling, yardwork, and weightlifting. Jack raced at the Rockford Speedway. Avid Chicago Cubs and Bears fan. Survivors include his wife, Denise; daughters, Patti Soule of Maple Grove, MN, and Jackie (Jeff) Frisk of Rockton, IL; sons, Michael (Pamela) Hollis of Rockford, IL, Mark Hollis of Polo, IL, Danny Hollis of Loves Park, IL, Dana Hollis of Machesney Park, IL, Dean (Lisa) Hollis of Rockford, IL; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews; sisters, Louise Smith of Rockford, IL, and Diane Del Rio of Machesney Park, IL. Predeceased by his parents; daughter, Debbie Gustafson; and loving pets, Bandit and Tabby.
Visitation from 4 to 6 p.m. Tuesday, May 28, 2024, at Delehanty Funeral Home, 401 River Lane, Loves Park, IL, with military honors to follow. In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be established.
