Melvin James Hess, 87, of Loves Park passed away Wednesday, June 20, 2018, in his home. Born August 5, 1930, in Stockton, the son of James and Gertrude (Posey) Hess. Veteran, serving in the U.S. Marine Corps. Married Judy Ann Trent on November 22, 1980. Employed by Ingersoll Milling Machine for 38 years. Mel enjoyed bowling, golfing, gardening, his yard and fish ponds. He was an avid sports fan and lifelong Cubs and Bears fan. Mel loved his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Survivors include his wife, Judy; children, Debbie (Ted) Hess-Simmering, M. Todd (Pamela) Hess, Brett Hess, Lisa Hess and Jennifer Bourgault; grandchildren, Jacob (Katherine) Simmering, Jordan Simmering, Jack Simmering, Morgan Hess, Clayton Hess, Tyler Hess, Cory Ellis, Lindsey Ellis and Nick Krause; great-grandchildren, Damon Ellis and Melina Simmering; siblings, Betty Gallentine, Verne (Daune) Hess, Ken (Pam) Hess and Sharon (Don) Goethe; best friends, Mike, Butch and Charlie; and all his firefighter and golfer friends. Predeceased by his parents; 3 brothers; and 1 sister.
Service at noon Saturday, June 23, in Delehanty Funeral Home, Ltd., 401 River Lane, Loves Park, with visitation from 11 a.m. to service time. Burial in Argyle Scottish Cemetery.
