Mary G. Walters, 79, of Loves Park, passed away Sunday, August 7, 2016. Born September 27, 1936. Married Miles Henry Walters on May 7, 1956. He passed away in 1994. Mary graduated from Duxbury High School in 1954, received her associate’s degree from Rock Valley College in 1976, and her bachelor’s degree from Rockford College in 1978. As a career educator, Mary was a teacher at both Pleasant Valley Christian Schools and for the Harlem School District. Veteran of U.S. Air Force, serving during the end of the Korean War. Member of Riverside Community Church. Always a tireless volunteer, Mary tutored adults for the Literacy Council, participated in every phase of Girl Scouting in several communities, and was involved in children’s and youth ministries at several churches. She was a founder of the “super solos” network of single/widowed people in her community. She loved to read, travel, swim, bike, walk, cross-country ski, and being outdoors in all seasons. Survivors include her son, Max Walters; daughter, Melanie Forbes; granddaughter, Lana S. (Trevor) Kee; grandsons, Barret, Jace and Patrick Forbes, Reid Walters; great-granddaughters, McKenzie and Ryleigh Kee; brother, George (Ruby Dean) Ivanoff; sister, Ann (Tom) Brobston; sister-in-law, Dianne Ivanoff; numerous nieces and nephews; and special friend, George Dunn. Predeceased by her parents; 2 brothers; and a sister.

Memorial service at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, September 27, in Riverside Community Church, 6816 North 2nd Street, Machesney Park, with visitation from 9:30 a.m. to service time. Memorials to Serenity Hospice and Home, Oregon, IL. Arrangements by Delehanty Funeral Home, Ltd. 401 River Lane, Loves Park.
