Mary Strey

Mary Lou Strey, 91, peacefully passed away surrounded by her loving family on March 23, 2018, on her 72nd wedding anniversary.  Even in leaving us, she gave us one more story to tell.  She was born February 9, 1927, in Oshkosh, WI to the late John and Lou (Drowns) Stadler.  On March 23, 1946, Mary Lou married the love of her life, Morry Strey in Dubuque.  Although she worked many jobs during her life, her real career and passion was raising and caring for her family.  She spent most of her adult life in Rockford where she and her husband raised three children.  Survivors include her children, James (Jill) Strey, Jeff (Elizabeth) Strey, and Jackie (George) Mohr; grandchildren, Eric (Allison Free) Strey, Dan Strey, Kristin (Brad Fischer) Strey, Colleen (Josiah) Rittmeyer, Cassie and Allie Mohr; and great-grandchildren, Jimmy, Ella and Jake.  Predeceased by her husband; sister, Janet (her husband, Donald) O’Neil.  Special thanks to her caregiver, Kim Gibson.

Services 10:30 a.m. Thursday, March 29, 2018, in Delehanty Funeral Home, 401 River Lane, Loves Park, IL.  Visitation 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home, and from 9:30 to 10:15 a.m. Thursday.  Burial in Sunset Memorial Gardens.  In lieu of flowers a memorial will be established.
