Mary L. Miller, 94, of Rockford passed away Friday, February 2, 2018, in Rockford Memorial Hospital. Born August 17, 1923, in Rockford, the daughter of the former Mayor of Loves Park, Daniel and Mabel (Johnson) Timmis. Graduate of Harlem High School, Class of 1941. Graduate of Illinois Masonic Hospital in Chicago, Class of 1947. Mary received her Public Health Certification from the University of Minnesota. Graduated from St. Francis College in Joliet with a Bachelor of Science degree. Married Howard E. Miller in 1947. Formerly employed by the Illinois Masonic Hospital in Chicago as head circulating nurse in surgery, Rockford Memorial Hospital as head of the maternity ward in labor and delivery and retired from Harlem Consolidated School as a nurse after 35 years. Member of Woman’s Golf Association at Ledges Macktown for many years, Harlemites Breakfast Group and Rock Valley Center for Learning. Former member of Golden Ages. Volunteered at the North Suburban Library in the history room. Mary loved traveling, stage and musical shows and especially spending time with family and friends. Survivors include her brother, Thomas (Mary Jo) Timmis of Northbrook; nieces, Jill, Sara, Melissa, Nancy and LuAnn; nephews, Scott, Jonathan and Joel; great-nieces, Katie, Lynn and Madalyn; great-nephews, Tom, Sam, Trent and Riley; great-great-niece, Aase; great-great-nephew, Kai; sisters-in-law, Patricia Miller of Rockford and Suzanne Miller of Machesney Park; former sister-in-law, Carol Riley of Fox Lake. Predeceased by her parents; husband; sister, Margaret.
Memorial services at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 3, in Delehanty Funeral Home, Ltd., 401 River Lane, Loves Park, with visitation from 10 a.m. to service time. Cremation rites were accorded. Inurnment at a later date in Scandinavian Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials to Shriners Crippled Children’s Hospital, Noah’s Arc Animal Sanctuary or charity of your choice.
