Mary J. Merwin, 78, of Dakota, passed away suddenly on November 17, 2023. Born March 5, 1945, in Rockford, the daughter of Robert E. and Marquerite C. (Campion) Goodwin. Married Jerry Merwin. Employed by USPS for 28 years. Member of St. Bridget Catholic Church. Mary loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also enjoyed reading. Survivors include one son, Jeffrey Merwin, of Dakota; six grandchildren, Michael (Donna Johnson) Merwin, Tiffani (Joseph) Vaccarello, Jon Merwin, Stephanie Lightner, Miriah Mente, and Danny Mente; three great-grandchildren, Hanna Lightner, Morgan Pearson, and Ervaeya Hohol; many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her parents; one son, Timothy “Hollywood” Merwin; one brother, Joseph Goodwin; and one sister, Lois Vincent.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, November 28, 2023, in St. Bridget Catholic Church, 600 Clifford Ave., Loves Park, IL, with a visitation from 10 a.m. to service time. Burial in Sunset Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be established. Arrangements by Delehanty Funeral Home, 401 River Lane, Loves Park
