Marwood D. Allen, 91, of Rockford, IL, a beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, cousin and friend, made his final journey home on Sunday, September 1, 2024. Marwood was born April 4, 1933, in Rockford, son of William and Anna (Kahler) Allen. Graduated from Winnebago High School. Married Mary C. Cole on June 21, 1952, at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Rockford. Lifetime Rockford area resident. Formerly employed by Ipsen Industries for 33 years as plant superintendent and service manager. Marwood was a true entrepreneur. He owned and operated a route of TV and radio tube testing machines, a utility trailer rental business, and an oil drilling business in Kentucky. He also was president and owner of MD Allen Industries Inc. for more than 40 years. Marwood served his country and was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army serving in the infantry, stationed in Germany. He had a great sense of humor, a passion for his work, and an unyielding service and love for his family and country. He loved to hunt, fish, shoot trap, and golf. He was an amazing bow and arrow fisherman. No one ever saw him miss. His hobbies supplemented his greatest passion, drive, and work ethic. Marwood was a parishioner at St. Patrick Catholic Church, St. Bernadette Catholic Church, and St. James Catholic Church. Survivors include his children, Ellen, Woody, and David; grandchildren, Marlee (Rex), and Renee; great-grandchildren, Jonah, Hayes, Tyler, and Sarena; numerous nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his birth father, William Allen; and stepfather, Harm Bomgarden; mother, Anna Bomgarden; wife of 65 years, Mary; and brother, Gene Allen.
Private services will be held. Burial was in Calvary Catholic Cemetery, Winnebago, IL. Arrangements by Delehanty Funeral Home, 401 River Lane, Loves Park, IL. In lieu of flowers, memorials to St. James Catholic Church.
