Margaret A. "Mickey" Cason, 97, of Rockford, IL, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 14, 2024. Born in Rockford on April 14,1927, to George and Marie (Verstynen) Delahanty. Proud graduate of Mooseheart High School in Batavia, IL. Married to the late William “Bill” Cason in 1949. Loving mother of four to Michael (Jane Dretzka) Cason, Mary (Ronald) Fairchild, Therese (Richard Casey) Cason, and James (Cyndi) Cason. Proud grandmother to Matthew (Stacey) Leighty, Andrew (Erin) Leighty, Kelly Smith, David (Jocelyn) Cason, Laura Cason, Karen Cason, Sarah Cason, Jonathan Cason, and Katherine Cason. Great-grandmother to Tyler Leighty and Colin Cason. Special grandmother to Jenna Fairchild, Aaron Brown, and Abby Brown and mother-in-law to Maureen Cason. Mickey worked over 30 years at Amerock, excelling in roles in the data and payroll departments. Always moving, she was a lifelong swimmer and became an active runner in her middle years, competing and winning several 5K and 10Ks. In her later years, she enjoyed exercising in the pool and walking in the neighborhood. She especially relished her role as founder of Cason Family Reunion Vacations and connecting with all generations under one roof. Special thanks to the wonderful team at Mercyhealth Hospice.
Memorial visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, May 20, 2024, at Delehanty Funeral Home, 401 River Lane, Loves Park, IL. Additional memorial visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 21, 2024, at St. Bridget Catholic Church, 600 Clifford Ave., Loves Park, followed by a memorial funeral mass at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations be made to Mooseheart School. Donations can be made through the web site at mooseheart.org or via mail to 155 South International Drive, Mooseheart, IL 60539.
