Margaret E. “Maggie” “Gigi” Carlson, 99, of Rockford, IL, passed away on Friday, April 17, 2026, at Generations at Neighbors, in Byron, IL, surrounded by her loving family. Born on Thursday, November 18, 1926, in Centerville, IA, the daughter of Lloyd and Anna (Barris) Sears. She married Raymond E. Carlson on September 1, 1946, in New Milford, IL. Briefly worked at Sundstrand and was formerly employed by Illinois National Bank until she began her true calling as an incredible wife and mother. Maggie was a girl scout leader and served the youth at the House of Philoi. She was a great cook making many dishes including pies and her famous mac and cheese. Maggie enjoyed sewing, knitting, and was an avid reader and Chicago Cubs fan. She loved spending time with and hosting events for her family. Survivors include her children, Susan (Mel) Shutt, Will (Joanne) Carlson, Anne Christine Mattson, David (Suze) Gibson, and Bob (Jo) Gibson; son-in-law, Rick Spink; 15 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; special nephew, Jim (Janis) Breckenridge; and several great-nieces and great-nephews. Predeceased by her parents; husband; daughter, Sherri Gibson; son-in-law, Ed Mattson; sisters, Betty Jean (Jim) Breckenridge, Katie (Richard) Aase, and Helen (Kenneth) O’Conner; brother, Harry Sears; and granddaughter, Taryn Gibson.
Graveside service at 2:30 p.m. Thursday, April 23, 2026, at Willwood Burial Park, Rockford, IL. Visitation from 1 to 2 p.m. Thursday, April 23, 2026, in Delehanty Funeral Home, 401 River Lane, Loves Park, IL. A Celebration of Life will be at a later date. In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be established.
