M. "Dolores" Nelson, 83, of Loves Park passed away Sunday, September 25, 2016, in Riverside Medical Center, Kankakee. Born October 17, 1932, in Chattanooga, TN., the daughter of Henry M. and Sarah L. (Watson) Holcomb. Married Richard W. Nelson, Sr., on October 21, 1949, in Loves Park. Employed as a medical legal secretary by Swedish American Hospital and later employed in the social services department at Provena Saint Anne Center. Member of St. Bridget Catholic Church since 1960. Marlene was an excellent mother who loved her children and grandchildren. She was a genealogist who loved researching her family. Survivors include her daughter, Caroline (Kevin) Fertig; son, David Nelson; daughter-in-law, Teresa Nelson; grandchildren, Colonel Richard Warren (Ngoc) Nelson, III, Trevor Axel Nelson, Sarah (Ray) Makiejus, Mary (Jason) Anglin, Elizabeth Fertig, Dylan Caleb Nelson, Willow Taylor Nelson and Noah Thomas Nelson; 7 great-grandchildren; sister, Marylou DeVita; and many beloved nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her husband, Richard Nelson, Sr.; son, Richard Warren Nelson, Jr.; sister, Tina Larson; and brother, Fred Bell.
Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. Thursday, September 29, in St. Bridget Catholic Church, 600 Clifford Ave., Loves Park, with visitation 10 a.m. to service time. Entombment in Sunset Memorial Gardens. Arrangements by Delehanty Funeral Home, Ltd., Loves Park.
