Lyle Oakland

January 6, 1940 — June 1, 2017

Lyle G. Oakland, 77, of Machesney Park passed away Thursday, June 1, 2017. Born January 6, 1940, in Bricelyn, MN, the son of Gordon and Thelma (Odegaard) Oakland.  Veteran of the U.S. Air Force.  Married Patricia “Pat” A. Oakland Thompson on October 16, 1965, in Rockford.  Formerly employed by Atwood and retired from Sundstrand.  Member of St. Bridget Catholic Church.  Lyle loved fishing, especially in Green Lake, WI.  He enjoyed gardening and was known for his canned tomatoes.  Avid Boylan Titan basketball fan.  Survivors include his wife, Pat; daughters, Julie (Chris) Black and Jorey Grey; son, Jeffrey Oakland; grandchildren, Ben, Matt, Abby, Hunter and Mason; sister, Linda Moorhead.  Predeceased by his brother, Gene; and sister, Norma.  Thank you to the wonderful staff at Highview in the Woodlands and to Dr. Wallery and Dr. Hansen.

Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. Monday, June 5, in St. Bridget Catholic Church, 600 Clifford Ave., Loves Park, with visitation from 9:30 a.m. to service time. Burial in Sunset Memorial Gardens.  Visitation also from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, June 4, in Delehanty Funeral Home, Ltd., 401 River Lane, Loves Park.  In lieu of flowers, memorials to the family for a memorial to be established.
