Lyle Richard Morgensen, 92, of Rockford, IL, (formerly of Belvidere where he lived for 50-plus years) passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 26, 2020, with his wife and one of his son’s by his side at Fairhaven Christian Retirement Home. He was born on September 10,1927, in McNabb, IL. He was a graduate of Dana College in Business Administration from Blair, NE, and received his master’s degree in School Administration from University of Nebraska. Lyle taught business and typing classes, along with coaching, before becoming a Principal for Hopkins Township High School, in Granville, IL, and then moved to Belvidere as Business Manager of Schools (Asst. Supt.) in Dist. 100 from 1964 to 1986 until he retired from education after 35 years. Upon retirement, he worked at the Belvidere Bank as Vice President of Business Development Dept. for a few years part-time. Lyle loved Belvidere and was very active in the community, was a longtime member of Zion Lutheran Church, loved golfing (Belmar), and was a huge Cub and Packers fan, along with spending time with family and friends, traveling with his beloved wife, June, and was found at the Keenage Center almost daily shooting pool later in his life. He was known for his hard work ethic, sense of humor, being frugal, a loving and devoted father and husband, along with his faith and love of music. Surviving are his wife of 68 years, June (Cantwell) Morgensen; five children, Kathy (Ken) Lizer of Ft. Wayne, IN, Tom (Pat) Morgensen of Lake Zurich, IL, Carole (Dave) Kenney of Libertyville, IL, Bob (Sallie) Morgensen of Pecatonica, IL, and Kristine (Mike) Hanley of Elmhurst, IL; 14 grandchildren, Julie (Trey) Lizer-Cook, Michael, Erin (Eduardo) Lizer, Kristen (Rob) McKinlay, Kelly Morgensen, Matthew (Mary), Megan (Ryan) Kenney-Solomon, Mitchell Kenney, Eric and Bret Morgensen, Connor, Brian and Luke Hanley, and Tassyana Boyd-Lizer; along with six great-grandchildren, all whom he loved and was deeply proud of. He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Laura Morgensen; siblings, Ethan, Lester, Irvin, and Marge (Grasser) Morgensen.
