Lyle A. Corrigan, 86, of Loves Park passed away peacefully in his home on Tuesday, June 27, 2017. Born August 7, 1930, in Rockford, the son of Joseph James and Florence R. (Simon) Corrigan. Graduated from Harlem High School in 1948 and attended two years at University of IL, Champaign/Urbana. Veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps. Married the love of his life, Marianne C. Bressler on August 6, 1955, in Rockford. In 1970, they bought Corrigan Manufacturing, Inc. which was started by his father in 1929. He dedicated much of his time and hard work into providing and creating a legacy for his family. Formerly employed by Dohrn Trucking. He was a devoted Catholic and a lifetime member of St. Bridget Catholic Church in Loves Park, IL. Racing was his passion. He started racing motorcycles as a young man and graduated to midget car owner in the 1970s. Spent many years traveling with his family and friends enjoying the intensity and excitement that racing provides. The pits were his second home and he was often seen laughing and telling stories with his friends after the last flag had dropped. Longtime member of Badger Midget Auto Racing Association. He bowled on the Loves Park Business Men’s Bowling League for many years. Lyle was a dedicated fan of all of his children and grandchildren’s hobbies and talents. Survivors include his children, Douglas Corrigan, Joseph (Debra) Corrigan, Wendy Clancy, Kelly (Greg) Finch, Michele (Michael) Williams and Roger (Tricia) Corrigan; grandchildren, Megan, Sam, Aidan, Liam, Nicholas, Matthew, Ryan, Danielle, Brendan, Andrew, Catherine, Ella, Brianna, and Brooke; great-grandson, Kaiden; sisters, Janice Pohlman and Sali (Ronald) Sonnenleiter; many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents and wife. Special thanks to caregivers, Zita, Mary and Tonya from Northern Illinois Hospice. He was loved by many and will be greatly missed.
Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 1, in St. Bridget Catholic Church, 600 Clifford Ave., Loves Park, with visitation from 9 to 9:45 a.m. in the church. Burial in Calvary Catholic Cemetery. Visitation also from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, June 30, in Delehanty Funeral Home, Ltd., 401 River Lane, Loves Park.
