Lucile M. Kieley, 100, of Rockford passed away Wednesday, April 22, 2020, in OSF Saint Anthony Medical Center after a short illness. Lucile was born May 7, 1919, in Rockford, the daughter of Frederick “Fred” and Emily (Stromgren) Peterson. Lucile graduated from Harlem High School in 1937 and the Saint Anthony School of Nursing. She married Joseph John Kieley, also of Rockford, on September 4, 1942, in Pensacola, Florida, where Joseph was stationed in the U.S. Navy. Lucile, Dube to her many friends, was a founding member of Grace Lutheran Church in Loves Park. For many years she worked as a volunteer at Saint Anthony Medical Center, the Harlem School District and Grace Lutheran Church. Some of Lucile’s fondest memories are of the years spent with Joseph living in Boy River, Minnesota, on Big Boy Lake. Many happy days were spent there with the kids and grandkids. Family often lovingly called her the “Lady of the Lodge”. She is survived by her daughter, Jo Ann Murphy; her son, Peter (Patti) Kieley. Nana was very proud of her six grandchildren: Emily (Joseph) Horst, Jeremy (Katie) Murphy, Samuel (Kristen) Kieley, Max (Alex) Kieley, Fred (Libby) Kieley and Joe (Amber) Kieley. She was equally proud of her 12 great-grandchildren: Elliot, Spencer, Owen, Finn, Jane, Morgan, Dylan, Henry, Fiona, William, Citrine and Ellis. Lucile was preceded in death by her husband of over 60 years, Joseph; and by her son, Daniel. Joyfully the entire family gathered in Rockford in 2019 to celebrate Lucile’s 100th birthday.
Private graveside service will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Machesney Park. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting memorials in Lucile’s name to Grace Lutheran Church. A celebration of Lucile’s life will be scheduled at a later date. Arrangements by Delehanty Funeral Home, Ltd., 401 River Lane, Loves Park.
