Lorraine Delehanty

Lorraine A. Delehanty, 88, of Loves Park, resident of Grand Victorian, passed away Tuesday, May 3, 2016. Born September 8, 1927, in Rockford, the daughter of Tage V. and Alice H. (Levin) Dahlberg. Graduated from East High School, Class of 1945. Married Thomas M. “Tom” Delehanty on November 29, 1947, in Rockford. Tom and Lorraine owned and operated Delehanty Funeral Home from 1949 until retiring in 1995. From 1950 to 1961, the funeral home served as Loves Park's first police and fire communications center. Calls were directed to the funeral home and were answered by either Tom or Lorraine. Over the years, many stories were exchanged and many cups of coffee were shared with Loves Park policemen, firemen and a multitude of friends in the second-floor kitchen of Delehanty's home on River Lane. Former member of Forest Hills Country Club where she loved to golf with her many friends, even shooting a hole in one at Hilton Head, South Carolina. Also, former member of North Suburban Women’s Club. Tom and Lorraine loved to dance and enjoyed Dixieland jazz music. They also enjoyed spending winters with many special friends on Marco Island in Florida. Survivors include her daughters, Nancy (Thomas) Shouler and Mary Kay (Paul) Lizer; special nephew whom they raised as a son from infancy, Rev. William T. (Mary Beth) Dahlberg; grandchildren, Melissa (Joe) Huff, Julie Cooter (Paul) Sarantopoulos, Garrett (fiancée, Savannah Cussen) Lizer, Betsy Lizer, Owen Dahlberg and Hannah Dahlberg; great-grandchildren, Sophia Huff, Ryan Huff and Lauren Huff; brother, Jack Dahlberg; several nieces and nephews; and numerous grand animals. Predeceased by her parents and husband, Tom on January 12, 2007. Special thanks to her Grand Victorian family and caregivers.

Service at 10 a.m. Friday, May 13, in Delehanty Funeral Home, Ltd., 401 River Lane, Loves Park. Burial in Argyle Scottish Cemetery. Visitation from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, May 12, in the funeral home. A memorial will be established.
