Lorne E. “Gene” Hoover, Sr., 76, of Loves Park, IL, passed away Monday, January 8, 2024, in Byron, IL. Born August 26, 1947, in Moline, IL, the son of Lorne L. and Amanda (Rosenberry) Hoover. Veteran of the U.S. Navy. He married Suzanne Golden on December 16, 1972, in Rock Island, IL. Employed by Ingersoll for 12 years. Member of NRA. Avid Ham Radio operator. He enjoyed doing machining, welding, and electrical programming. Survivors include his wife, Suzanne; daughter-in-law, Tara Hoover; grandchildren, Tristan (Samatha) Albright, Lorelai Hoover, Cordelia Hoover, and Reece Hoover; great-grandchildren, Madelynn, Alesea, Eleanor, and Colton; many nieces and nephews; loving dog, Sweet Pea; and beloved neighbors, Robert and Sheila. Predeceased by his parents; son, Gene; brother, Richard “Bud”; and sister, Beulah Oden.
Service at noon Saturday, January 13, 2024, at Delehanty Funeral Home, 401 River Lane, Loves Park, with visitation from 11 a.m. to service time. Cremation rites accorded. In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be established.
