Lois Armstrong

January 1, 1930 — July 7, 2025

Lois Ann (Allen) Armstrong, 95, of Rockford, IL, went to be with the Lord on Monday, July 7, 2025, at Fairhaven Christian Retirement Center.  Up until her final days, Lois could still be found walking the halls, talking with friends, or reading her Bible and praying.  She was born on January 1, 1930, in Chicago, IL, to Casper and Leona (Fish) Allen.  After graduating from Arcola High School in 1948 and Illinois State University in 1952, she taught 3rd and 4th grades in Urbana, IL, Clinton, IL, and Shorewood, WI.  Lois married the love of her life, John Armstrong, on June 17, 1955, with whom she built a full life in Rockford.  Together, they attended Forest City Baptist Church for many decades, where she taught Sunday School and was involved in many other ministries.  They also faithfully supported many missionaries over the years.  Lois was a devoted mother to her three children, as well as a spunky, caring grandmother to her grandchildren.  She could often be found watching the birds or chasing away the squirrels from the feeders, reading books and writing letters to friends and family, cheering for the Chicago Cubs and Bulls, cruising in the boat in her bucket hat, and one of her favorite activities- walking around the neighborhood and hallways.  In this way, she would not only stay in excellent health for most of her life, but she also got to know her neighbors and to be a part of her community.

Lois loved spending time with family, whether it was celebrating around the dinner table with bowls of ice cream, playing baseball in the backyard, or going on trips to explore the city and country.  She and John took each of the grandkids on memorable trips to Oregon, Alaska, and Washington DC, as well as the annual trip to Kentucky Lake that became a family tradition with many cousins for years.  Her children and grandchildren have countless memories of how she made them feel special and reminded them that she prayed for them “many times a day”.

But even as much as she loved her family, Lois loved her Lord and Savior all the more.  She had a secure confidence in her faith and the promise of a home someday in Heaven, which was effortlessly brought into conversations with family, friends, and strangers alike.  Even in her last days, she was burdened to share the Gospel with anyone she could and faithfully prayed for so many.  She was a true prayer warrior and used her time well in this way.  Her family is rejoicing that she is now walking the streets of gold and hearing “Well done, good and faithful servant”.

Survivors include her daughters, Elaine (Ric) Smith and Ruth (Jeff) Wilcox; grandchildren, Kathryn (Eric) Larsen, Matt (Sarah) Wilcox, Trisha (Josh) Haas, Dustin Wilcox, Melissa Smith, Marcia Smith, and Michelle (Scott) Fair; great-grandchildren, Liam, James, Alex, Colton, Everett, Damien, Chloe, Taylor, Gavyn, Kasia, Olesia, Gia, and Rowan.  Predeceased by husband, John; son, Philip; brothers, Roger and Dwight; granddaughter, Megan McMullen; as well as other beloved family and friends.

Her family wishes to thank all the attentive staff at Fairhaven Christian Center for their loving care and support until the end.

A private family service will be held at Arlington Memorial Park, Rockford.  Arrangements by Delehanty Funeral Home, 401 River Lane, Loves Park, IL.
