Linda Jean (Schweiger) Lynch, 78, of Loves Park, Illinois, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by her loving family, on Saturday, October 10, 2026.
Linda was born on January 4, 1948, to Robert Schweiger and Virginia (Bowes) Schweiger. She attended St. Bridget School before graduating from Boylan High School in 1966.
It was during her high school years, through the St. Bridget Church youth group, that Linda met the love of her life, Ed. Following graduation, she attended cosmetology school and began her career as a beautician. Linda and Ed were married in 1972, beginning a lifelong partnership built on love, faith, and devotion to family.
In 1973, Linda and Ed moved to Poway, California, where they welcomed their first son, Shane. They treasured their time in California, enjoying the closeness of Aunt Ann and Uncle Pete and their children. After three and a half years, they returned to Loves Park to be closer to their parents and siblings.
Back in Loves Park, Linda and Ed welcomed their son Joel and, a few years later, their daughter Nicole, completing their family.
Above all else, Linda was devoted to her family, her faith in God, and serving others. Her family was the center of her world, and she embraced every role in her life with love and grace. She was a cherished wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, aunt, and cousin, whose kindness and unwavering devotion touched the lives of those around her.
A lifelong member of St. Bridget Church, Linda's faith was a guiding force throughout her life. Together, she and Ed participated in Marriage Encounter retreats, Cursillo weekends, and Light of the World retreats. Linda also served her parish as a Eucharistic minister and taught CCD classes. Her faith was more than a belief; it was something she lived each day through her compassion, generosity, and willingness to serve others.
Linda's deep faith, love of children, and passion for reading led her to a fulfilling 25-year career as the librarian at St. Bridget School. She considered instilling a love of reading and learning in young minds not simply a profession, but a true calling. Through the books she shared, the encouragement she offered, and the care she showed her students, Linda made a lasting difference in countless young lives. Her students and colleagues brought her great joy throughout the years, until her retirement in 2020.
Linda's legacy is one of faith, kindness, compassion, and unconditional love. The lives she touched, the lessons she imparted, and the love she so freely gave will continue to live on through her family, friends, former students, and all who were blessed to know her. She will be remembered not only for what she did, but for the warmth she brought to others and the example she set.
Linda is survived by her beloved husband, Ed Lynch; her children, Shane (Diane) Lynch, Joel (Amanda) Lynch, and Nicole Lynch; her grandchildren, Tyler Walters, Abbigale Longo, and Joanne Longo; her siblings, Robert (Arlene) Schweiger Jr. and Georgina (James) Fagan Jr.; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Virginia Schweiger; her in-laws, John and June Lynch; her sister, Ellen Osborn; and her brothers-in-laws, Jerry Lynch and Patrick Lynch.
The family would like to thank the staff at Lincolnshire Place and Sanctuary Hospice for helping to care for Linda the last couple months of her life.
