Leland “Lee” W. Prentice, 82, of Machesney Park passed away peacefully, returning to his heavenly home on Monday, April 3, 2017. Born October 21, 1934, in Conde, S.D., the son of George and May (Hink) Prentice. Married Joyce M. Bradley, the love of his life and soulmate, on February 7, 1954, in Conde, S.D. They enjoyed 56 years of marriage until her death in 2010. They raised 6 children together and he lived in the Rockford area for 63 years. Member of Evans United Methodist Church. Lee was a devoted husband and loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather, always putting his family first. He was involved for many years in the Boy Scouts of America where he nurtured and influenced the lives of many. He also enjoyed fishing, gardening and woodworking. Lee leaves to carry on his loving, caring legacy with his children, Michael (Deborah) Prentice, Kim (Candice) Prentice, Scott Prentice, Rick Prentice, Debra (Tim) Moffitt and Chris Prentice; his grandchildren, Melissa (Will) Kraklau, Derrick Prentice, Douglas (Shannon) Prentice, Melanie (Dave) Cox, Bradley Prentice, Brittany (Joe) Blodgett, Tamara (Rob) McKay, Tonya (Steve) Endress, Tracey (Dan Knope) Prentice, Krishana (Ryan) Fritz, Cassandra Moffitt, Mackenzie Prentice; great-grandchildren, Aileen, Wyatt, Bennett, Elliott, Camden, Chandler, Caitlynn, Collin, Max, Jackson, Aubrey, Ashlyn and Gabe; sisters-in-law, Billie Prentice and Blanche Peters; and many nephews, nieces and cousins. Predeceased by his loving wife, Joyce; parents; and brother, Don Prentice. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Northern Illinois Hospice and the caregivers from Senior Helpers.
A celebration of his life will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, April 8, at Evans United Methodist Church, 7605 N. Second Street, Machesney Park. In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be established in his name. Arrangements by Delehanty Funeral Home, Ltd., Loves Park.
