Leda Phillips
May 21, 1928 — October 8, 2023
Leda E. Phillips, 95, of Loves Park, IL, passed away peacefully on Sunday morning, October 8, 2023, in her home. She was born on May 21, 1928, in Marmaduke, AR, the daughter of Frank A. and Fannie Mae (Ward) Wooten. Leda was baptized as a teenager in Marmaduke. She married Burl Winford Phillips, on September 11, 1943, in Paragould, AR. They were faithful members of North Park Church of Christ since 1962. Leda and Burl participated in many activities at church. One favorite was Vacation Bible School where she and Burl would dress up as Bible characters, teach classes, drive the church bus, and help oversee snacks for the children. They participated in multiple bible studies over the years with the desire to help share the good news of Christ. Leda would also visit the sick, usually taking a homemade dessert or fresh baked bread. She was a homemaker who raised five kids until all but one was out of the home, at which time she partnered with her husband, Burl, in their accounting firm. She loved to sew, do yard work and especially make all of her children and grandchildren’s favorite desserts. Leda was quick to have our favorite dessert ready when we came to visit and would always send us home with jars of homemade jelly and apple butter. Survivors include her sons, Ronald (Sue) Phillips, Dennis (Carol) Phillips, Rick (Marsha) Phillips, and Dwight (Kay) Phillips; daughter, Zandra Brockway; 15 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. Predeceased by her husband of 68 years, Burl Phillips on June 20, 2011; daughter, Brenda Phillips; and grandson, Trey Harp. The family would like to thank the doctors and staff at Swedish American Hospital, the emergency department, and the staff from Northern Illinois Hospice for their guidance and care. We especially appreciate our brother, Rick, for his devoted care of mom over the past several years.
