Lavonne Schutt

February 10, 1931 — March 12, 2017

LaVonne L. (Bowman) Schutt, 86, of Machesney Park passed away at 6:02 a.m. Sunday, March 12, 2017, in Amberwood Care Center, after suffering for several years with dementia. Born February 10, 1931, in Mount Carroll, the second daughter of Elmer and Lucille (Haas) Bowman. Graduate of Rockford West High School, Class of 1949. Married Alan L. Schutt on April 14, 1950, in Loves Park. Bonnie had many talents to keep her busy. When she wasn't being Alan's bookkeeper for his various businesses, she enjoyed flower arranging and painting figurines. She painted personal holiday figurines for each family member for many years. When the grandchildren were growing up, it was a regular event to go on an adventure with grandma. It may have been riding the Forest City Queen up the Rock River, riding the public bus downtown and back, or just going out to lunch. She loved her family and loved even more to cook for them. Whenever anyone visited her, there was fresh coffee and baked goods to eat. And if you stayed longer, she would insist on making a homemade pizza or have Alan get the grill going for a cookout. Outside of the home, Bonnie worked at the ABC Playschool for several years and later spent 10 years working at the Mayflower Restaurant as a salad gal. She also was a very active member of Grace Lutheran Church and the Deborah Circle. She and Alan were chairman of the church's annual Christmas dinner/bazaar for many years. Bonnie was the first wedding coordinator of the church's wedding guild, helping scores of couples plan and execute their ceremony at Grace. She served on the Board of Directors for Grace's pre-school for 11 years. She also was a longtime bowler on the church's women's league, bowling a 150 average! Bonnie will be missed not only for all her talents but for her sense of humor. Her "favorite sons-in-law" will attest to the fact that Bonnie was a jokester and was always good for a laugh. Even on her final day, Bonnie had the upper hand. Back in 1999, in his last days, Alan told her to "meet me on the other side of the moon" ... so when the full moon on March 12th was shining, she peacefully fell asleep and joined him. Alan's Bonnie and Alan are finally back together. Survivors include her children, Robin (Don) Martin, Carmen (Tim) Humpal, Alan (Isabel) Schutt Jr. and Kim (Steve Poehlein) Smith; grandchildren, Megan (Bryan) Adams, Jackie (Tom) Wolter, Tesa (Levi) Williamson, David (Amber) Humpal, Michael Smith, Nadja (Nick Raatz) Schutt, Josh Smith and Colin (Tina Hanika) Schutt; great-grandchildren, Gabi, Tristan, Patrick, Lucy, Nick, Conrad, Fletcher and Dominic; sisters, Phyllis Allen, Maxine Allabaugh, Virginia Taylor, Sharon Birkett and Linda Tracey. Predeceased by her husband and parents.
