Larry Brent Runestad, 75, of Rockford, IL, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, June 11, 2024. Born on April 17, 1949, in Fargo, ND, the son of Rev. Luverne T. and Barbara L. (Aarrestad) Runestad. Larry graduated from West High School, Class of 1967. He earned his bachelor's degree in music education from Northern Illinois University. Larry married the love of his life, Jean M. Winzenried on February 23, 1974, in Rockford, IL, recently celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary.
Saying Larry loved music is an understatement. His many musical talents include directing choirs, singing, and playing the guitar, along with other musical instruments. He was a soloist at many events throughout his life. Larry ministered as a music director at local churches for over 50 years and directed music for the A Classic Chorale.
He worked for Children’s International charity organization, as a sales manager at Rockford Products, owned and operated Tra-doc Communications, Inc. for over 25 years. Larry’s daily quiet time with God, boating, camping, ATVing, snowmobiling, reading, and spending time with family and friends were his favorite things to do.
Larry was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, brother, friend, leader, and man of God. His life made our world a better place. He will be dearly missed by many. Survivors include his wife, Jean of Rockford; two sons, Christopher (Jennifer) of North Aurora, IL, and Jonathan (Denise) of Machesney Park, IL; grandchildren, Addison, Ethan and Samuel Runestad, Luke Freeman and Tayler (Andrew) Wells; great-granddaughter, Isla; brother, Paul (Mary) Runestad; sister, Pastor Dana Runestad (Barry Rabe); sisters-in-law, Vicki Runestad, Janet Larson, Joyce (Jack) Antczak, Joan (Bob) Stockburger, and Judy DeGutis; numerous nieces and nephews; fur children, Bentley and Cooper. Predeceased by his parents; brother, Craig; and brothers-in-law, Don Larson and Steven DeGutis.
Service at 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 18, 2024, at Delehanty Funeral Home, 401 River Lane, Loves Park, IL, with visitation from 10 a.m. to service time. Private burial in Arlington Cemetery.
